Srinagar, Mar 12 : National Conference vice-president, Omar Abdullah, has condemned the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for allegedly manipulating religion for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections amidst the controversy surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Expressing his views at a press conference as per The Web Story, Abdullah pointed out that the CAA was passed in 2019, but the BJP took steps to implement it in 2024, just before the elections. He stated that this indicates that the BJP is simply using the CAA as a political move to secure votes.
Abdullah criticized the BJP for repeatedly targeting the Muslim community since coming to power. He argued that the latest development, the CAA, is just another attack on the Muslim community, which appears to be a part of the BJP’s long-standing political strategy.
Abdullah expressed surprise at the BJP’s political tactics, emphasizing that the party had previously boasted of winning 400 seats and claimed they would never lose an election, especially after the construction of the Ram Mandir. He believes that the BJP’s recent actions suggest a sense of insecurity, leading them to resort to strong-arm tactics against Muslims.
The National Conference vice-president firmly denounced the implementation of the CAA as a “Ramadan gift” to the Muslim community, stating that such a move is highly condemnable by all.
