Sopore, Oct 17: The Social Welfare Department of Sopore organized an awareness program on drug abuse at the Gulzar Memorial Educational Trust (GMET) School, drawing hundreds of students and staff members.
The program was conducted under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and aimed to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse while emphasizing collective efforts to combat this societal issue.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore S.A. Raina and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Fayaz Ahmad Lone attended the event as chief guests. The Chairman of GMET and other staff members were also present.
In his address, ADC Sopore provided a comprehensive overview of the drug problem, discussing its sources, causes, and consequences. He urged students to pursue sports as a preventive measure against substance abuse.
Social Welfare Officer Fayaz Ahmad Lone highlighted the importance of the slogan “Say No to Drugs” in fostering a drug-free society, stressing that awareness is vital not only for those directly affected but also for the community as a whole.
Lone also emphasized the critical role of youth in reducing drug addiction. The program featured student skits and speeches addressing the drug menace, advocating for unified efforts toward a successful future.
Students also participated in a painting and drawing competition on the occasion.
At the closing ceremony, certificates were distributed among participants for their outstanding performances.
