Srinagar, Oct 05: Youth leader Touseef Raina on Monday said he addressed the Bay of Bengal Conference on “Elections in the Age of Disruption,” joining a panel of speakers to deliberate on the growing influence of technology and social media on democratic processes across the region.
Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post Raina said the discussions at the conference centred on how digital platforms are transforming the way elections are contested, how public trust in electoral systems is evolving, and what steps are needed to keep democratic processes credible and resilient in an era of rapid technological change.
“We discussed how technology and social media are changing the way elections are contested, how public trust is evolving, and what it takes to keep democratic processes credible and resilient,” he said.
Notably, The Bay of Bengal Conference brings together policymakers, academics and young leaders from across the globe to examine emerging challenges to democratic governance.
This year’s theme assumes significance amid growing global concern over misinformation, the role of social media algorithms in shaping public opinion, and the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence on electoral integrity.
Touseef Raina, a youth leader from Baramulla, has been vocal on issues concerning young people and democratic participation.
