Srinagar, Mar 23 : Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting later today to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and finalise the modernisation requirements for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) for the 2026-27 fiscal, official sources said.

The meeting, scheduled to be held through video conferencing, comes amid a focus on intensifying counter-insurgency operations in the region, they said.

Sources in the security establishment told the news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the Home Secretary will review the expenditure incurred during the current financial year, which ends in ten days, and is likely to deliberate on the funds required for the modernisation of the JKP.

Top officials of the administration and the police, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, and Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, are attending the briefing. Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) of the Jammu and Kashmir zones are also present, they said.

The review comes in the wake of the successful elimination of top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commanders in Kishtwar last month, sources said, adding that the focus remains on stepping up operations in the upper reaches and dismantling the overground worker (OGW) network. (KNS)
