Srinagar, Mar 03 : Despite government assurances of providing scheduled electricity, especially during Sehri and Iftari in this holy month of Ramzan, that is not the reality on the ground. People in Kashmir are often forced to have Candlelight Sehri and Iftari.
It is the second day of Ramadan, and people are experiencing power outages during Sehri. The same suffering, the same unfulfilled promises, and the same assurances that never materialize leave the people of Kashmir deprived of electricity during Ramzan.
The Web Story/The Varmul Post received reports from various parts of Kashmir regarding the inconvenience caused to people due to power outages, especially during Sehri.
The lack of electricity during Sehri has become a source of distress for the people.
People are questioning Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s promises to address these basic issues, but it seems the situation is only worsening.
A day before Ramadan, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a meeting in Srinagar to ensure seamless arrangements for the holy month.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to work closely together to ensure all necessary arrangements, including an uninterrupted power supply—especially during Sehri and Iftari—adequate water supply, traffic management, and the availability of essential commodities with price regulation. The smooth functioning of public services remains our top priority.
But the question remains the same: why haven’t these promises been fulfilled? Why are people facing such hardships during this holy month of Ramadan? Why is the Power Development Department (PDD) not prioritizing the provision of scheduled electricity? For how long will people have to rely on candlelight for Sehri and Iftari?
