Shopian, Mar 21: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat reaffirmed on Friday that security forces in Jammu and Kashmir will intensify efforts to combat narco-terrorism, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach toward criminals linked to drug trafficking and militancy.
Speaking to reporters after addressing a public darbar (community meeting) in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, DGP Prabhat, stated, “Those involved in narco-terrorism will be dealt with sternly.”
He underscored that law enforcement agencies would adopt an uncompromising stance to dismantle networks fueling the drug trade and terrorism in the Jammu and Kashmir.
When questioned about potential increases in cross-border infiltration amid melting snow, the DGP declined to speculate, remarking, “Let’s not make predictions like the meteorological department.”
He instead highlighted plans to expand public engagement, noting, “More darbars will be organized in the coming days to address citizen concerns directly.”
The DGP also addressed a recent viral video allegedly depicting a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) assaulting a woman in Qazigund. He confirmed that a committee led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of South Kashmir has been tasked with investigating the incident, with findings expected within ten days.
Urging restraint, Prabhat stated, “Three days have already passed. This matter should not be politicized or given communal, religious, or caste-based angles. The accused officer belongs to the same community as those affected.”
