Major success against militancy in Srinagar, only one resident militant active now: Police

Srinagar, Dec. 8—In a major victory against militancy and law and order issues in Srinagar district, a top police official reported that only one active resident militant remains in the district, and law and order issues and bandhs/strikes have almost vanished.

A top police official said that just one resident militant is left from Srinagar distt namely Momin Gulzar, a resident of Eidgah area. It was also conveyed that not letting the youth join militant ranks is among the top priority of J&K police reported news a local news agency KNO.

Further, the militancy incidents in Srinagar distt have been reduced considerably and the district is fast becoming one of the most peaceful districts of the Valley.

The officials said that in this year from 1st January 2022 till date, only 2 minor law & order incidents took place—one in Shankerpora, Nowgam and another at Maisuma area of Srinagar. Both the incidents were minor in nature and were contained within minutes.

This is in contrast when in 2018 more than 200 were reported and around 400 in 2016. “This indicates that peace is fast returning to Srinagar and efforts are on to make the peaceful atmosphere a permanent feature,” the officials said.
