BANDIPORA, Nov 22: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora, Ajaz Zargar, stated on Saturday that combating the rising drug menace is the top priority for the district police, warning that growing addiction is severely harming local youth.
Describing the crisis as “a serious threat that demands immediate and collective attention,” SSP Zargar emphasized that the police cannot tackle this challenge alone. “Without public cooperation, it is impossible to fully eradicate this problem,” he said.
The SSP as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post warned that drug abuse can affect “any family, any household,” and urged parents to remain vigilant, monitor their children for behavioural changes, and seek help without delay. “Anyone’s child can fall into this trap. A collective effort is essential if we are to eliminate this menace,” he added.
Zargar outlined that he recently held detailed consultations with civil society groups, market associations, transporters, and local committees to assess the situation on the ground. Based on these discussions, he said the police will formulate a joint action plan with community representatives to strengthen surveillance, curb drug trafficking, and bolster preventive measures.
He also highlighted that timely information from citizens remains one of the most effective tools in crime prevention. “Tip-offs from the public can save lives. We urge citizens to come forward with any relevant information so that decisive action can be taken,” the SSP stated.
Appealing for widespread public cooperation, Zargar reaffirmed Bandipora Police’s commitment to making the district drug-free, noting that the success of this campaign depends entirely on community participation. “We need the wholehearted support of our people,” he added.
