SRINAGAR – The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, announced the successful dismantling of a major charas supply network operating in the Baramulla-Pulwama belt. The operation resulted in the seizure of 2.730 kilograms of the illicit substance and the arrest of three individuals, including the alleged primary supplier.
The breakthrough occurred on November 20, 2025, when an NCB team, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted Bashir Ahmad Malla, a resident of Dhobiwan, Kunzer, in Baramulla district. Officials recovered 2.730 kg of charas from his possession.
Following Malla’s arrest and subsequent interrogation, NCB investigators, with the proactive assistance of the Baramulla Police from Kunzer Police Station, apprehended his close associate, Mansoor Ahmad Wani. Wani, also from Dhobiwan, is alleged to have been an active participant in the supply chain.
Building on disclosures from the initial arrests and further operational intelligence, the NCB team apprehended the alleged mastermind, Abdul Rashid Dar, from Pulwama. This final arrest is reported to have exposed the complete trafficking chain from source to distribution.
Authorities confirmed that all three accused have prior criminal histories linked to cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“The arrest of the mastermind, his associate, and the supplier has effectively dismantled the entire module responsible for the procurement, transportation, and distribution of the seized contraband,” an NCB spokesperson stated.
A comprehensive investigation is ongoing to identify backward and forward linkages, trace financial trails, and uncover any potential inter-state connections.
The NCB commended the Baramulla Police for their “strong cooperation and timely support,” which they said was vital to the operation’s success and has strengthened inter-agency coordination in the region.
The establishment of the NCB’s Srinagar office is part of the Government of India’s strategic initiative to bolster narcotics enforcement in Jammu & Kashmir. The Bureau reiterated its commitment to curbing the drug menace, protecting the youth, and enhancing cooperation with law enforcement agencies across the Union Territory.
The NCB has appealed to the public for support in the fight against drugs. Citizens can confidentially report any information related to narcotics trafficking via the MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline at the toll-free number 1933.
