The joyous atmosphere in a family from Baramulla in north Kashmir quickly turned into sorrow and anguish when tragedy struck just hours after the birth of their newborn baby.

Dilshada (32), the mother, sadly passed away, leaving behind an orphaned baby boy. The entire community was shaken by this heartbreaking incident, and concerns and demands for justice began to echo throughout the district.

The family had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their newest member and had shared their happiness with their relatives and neighbors. Speculations about the baby’s gender circulated among family members, adding to the excitement. Ultimately, news of the birth of a baby boy spread, leading to an even greater celebration within Dilshada’s family. Sweets were distributed, and plans were made for the new arrival.

However, the atmosphere quickly changed, turning into a dark and sorrowful scene. Dilshada’s untimely demise left her the family devastated and questioning the future of the newborn.

With a heart full of grief, Saima (name changed ) sister of deceased wondered who would care for the baby now. The shattered dreams and emotional turmoil pervaded the room, casting a somber shadow over the entire family.

Dilshada’s sister expressed her anguish, wondering how healthcare providers could be so callous. How could they neglect their sister’s wellbeing and leave the innocent newborn orphaned within hours of his birth? These questions resonated within the hearts and minds of everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, male or female, in the village. The trauma of this incident consumed the entire community.

Ramzan, an elderly man offering his sympathies to the grieving family, spoke out against the loss they had endured. He demanded justice, emphasizing the shattered trust in government health institutions. The incident had instilled fear in community members, making them wary of seeking treatment at such facilities.

An eyewitness sister, who had been present during the tragic movement, recounted the negligence displayed by the doctors attending to Dilshada. Despite repeated requests, the medical staff allegedly ignored her deteriorating condition after delivering the baby. They claim that she did not receive the necessary care and attention that could have saved her life.

The family, filled with suffering and heartbreak, took to the streets to protest against GMC Baramulla. They demanded justice and sought stern action against those responsible for Dilshada’s death. Their voices joined together in a plea for accountability and reform within the healthcare system.

Hospital Authorities Reaction

Reacting to the issue, the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, has issued a statement to the media, confirming that immediate action has been taken to ensure a thorough investigation into the case. He emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in the situation.

To carry out a comprehensive inquiry, a committee of seasoned professionals is being formed. This committee will carefully examine the case and its findings will be made public once the investigation concludes. The Head of the Department of Gynaecology at GMC Baramulla has been instructed to provide a detailed incident report within one day. This report will shed light on the events leading up to the unfortunate demise of Mrs. Dilshada and provide a thorough understanding of the medical care provided.

The hospital authorities affirm their commitment to a fair and impartial inquiry, emphasizing that they will fully cooperate with the committee to ensure a transparent examination of the case.

Public Reaction

The incident has generated a shocked response across all sectors of society in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Baramulla district.

Social activists and representatives are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and have criticized GMC Baramulla for the alleged mismanagement and chaos. Netizens on social media platforms have also expressed their outrage against the institution.

Social activist Shiekh Aamir highlights various issues, including malfunctioning equipment and patient suffering, and claims that GMC Baramulla only excels in making claims of better healthcare without delivering on the ground. He criticizes the prevalent norms of negligence by doctors at the institution, expressing concern for the wellbeing of the poor and innocent residents of Baramulla.

Advocate Rabia, another social activist, considers the incident unfortunate and appeals to the authorities for a thorough investigation. She describes it as shocking and emphasizes the need to prevent further harm to innocent people.

Rafeeq Rather, a senior political leader, expresses his disappointment over the unfortunate death and attributes it to mismanagement and chaos within GMC Baramulla. He believes that transferring the current college management is crucial for the betterment and welfare of the local population.

Advocate Mudasir Naqsbandi voices his concern about the negligence hub that GMC Baramulla seems to have become. He questions the accountability of the medical professionals and highlights the prevalent mismanagement in the institution.

Senior journalist Mir Ehsan, taking to his social media platform Facebook, calls for greater accountability among doctors, especially the Heads of Departments and top administrators of Baramulla Medical College. He acknowledges the presence of capable doctors and hardworking staff but emphasizes the need for accountability to ensure the overall well-being of patients.
