A Clouded Future for Rising Stars
Sakib Bashir
Three promising Kashmiri fast bowlers, Tahir Bhat, Waseem Bashir, and Mujtaba Yousuf, who had set the stage ablaze in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have been inexplicably ignored and dropped by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
These talented youngsters had put Kashmir on the world cricket map by showcasing their skills in the IPL 2023, the second-most lucrative sporting league in the world. Tahir, Waseem, and Mujtaba, hailing from different parts of the Kashmir Valley, had taken the league by storm and garnered immense praise and support from international cricketers while serving as net bowlers.
However, to the dismay of their fans and cricket enthusiasts, the state cricket association decided to exclude them from the upcoming practice matches against Punjab. This sudden omission raises significant concerns about the functioning of the state cricket and its association.
The trio’s exclusion from the squad has left many questioning whether they truly failed to secure a place or if they were purposely overlooked. Such a gross disregard for promising young talents not only stunts their growth but also raises a big question mark on the integrity and vision of the state cricket association.
The fate of Tahir Bhat, Waseem Bashir, and Mujataba Yousuf, and the reputation of Jammu and Kashmir cricket hang in the balance. Only time will tell whether the association rises to the occasion and reinstates these rising stars, or if their talents are wasted in a tale of lost opportunities.
