Sopore, Sep 21 : In a first for this north Kashmir town, a young woman has opened a women-only gym, aiming to provide local females a space of their own in a region where fitness centres have long been a male-dominated sphere.
Sana Wani, a Sopore resident holding a master’s degree in anthropology from Delhi University, has launched the initiative exclusively for women, complete with all-female staff.
Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post Sana Wani said the idea stemmed from a simple observation that women were often missing from the town’s rapidly growing gym culture.
“I came up with this initiative to support women exclusively, as they were often missing these spaces,” she said.
Wani said health is wealth and belongs equally to both genders, adding that fitness has become increasingly important given rising health concerns.
The initiative is expected to encourage more women and girls in Sopore to take an active interest in fitness and a healthier lifestyle.
She also credited her husband for supporting the women’s fitness and wellness venture, which marks the opening of Sopore’s first female-only gym.
