HANDWARA, DEC 19 : A senior doctor at the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, has been suspended with immediate effect after a video showing a patient abandoned on a hospital trolley circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage.
The footage, verified and published by The Varmul Post/Web Story, depicts the patient lying unattended outside a medical ward, raising serious concerns over patient care protocols at the institution.
Administrative sources confirmed that the suspended doctor was also serving as the Hospital Security Incharge at the time of the incident. The suspension order was issued pending a swift internal inquiry.
In response, the hospital administration has constituted a five-member committee comprising senior medical professionals and administrative officers to conduct a thorough investigation. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 24 hours.
The Medical Superintendent formalized the suspension to ensure accountability and to scrutinize the circumstances captured in the viral video. Official communication regarding the action has been forwarded to senior health department authorities and district administration officials.
Hospital authorities stated that any further disciplinary action will be based on the findings of the investigative committee.
