BARAMULLA, DEC 21 : Senior political leader and social activist Touseef Raina on Sunday launched a scathing critique against the political class of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led National Conference, contrasting the aerial arrivals of leaders with the grounded struggles of citizens for basic necessities.
Addressing a massive gathering at the Dak Bungalow here, Raina as per The Web Story / The Varmul Post asserted that Baramulla has repeatedly been promised development, employment, and essential facilities by various political parties especially National Conference with those pledges remaining unfulfilled.
“The people were shown dreams and given assurances, only to be cheated in the end,” he stated. “I urge my fellow citizens not to be misled again by promises of free electricity, free gas, or other hollow slogans.”
Raina criticized the political leadership for being detached from ground realities, stating that while leaders descend upon Baramulla by helicopter for meetings, the public continues to grapple for fundamental needs. “This disparity clearly illustrates the gap between the rulers and the ruled,” he remarked.
He also challenged the National Conference’s political narrative, observing that votes have been sought in the name of keeping the BJP at bay, while the situation on the ground tells its own story. “The people now understand how affairs are truly being managed,” he added.
Raina emphasized that the convention was not orchestrated through paid participation or inducements, distinguishing it from past political rallies. “No one was brought here with money, food, or favours. Attendees came in their own vehicles, using their own fuel. I am profoundly grateful to all who stood with us in this bitter cold,” he said.
Stressing principles of equality and collective leadership, he said, “For me, everyone is equal. There are no presidents or designated titles here. You are for me, and I am for you.”
In a significant announcement, Raina revealed the establishment of an independent public office in Baramulla, intended to serve citizens across the constituency. The office will operate as a platform for registering grievances, suggestions, and public issues, ensuring direct engagement with the leadership. “This office will function purely for the people, without discrimination or political bias,” he assured.
Notably, defying intense cold and snowfall on a severe Chillai Kalan day, a sea of crowd converged in Baramulla for the political convention addressed by Raina. The substantial turnout, amid harsh weather conditions, has fuelled speculation regarding growing public discontent with the current administration.
