In a groundbreaking medical achievement, doctors at Sub-district Hospital Kupwara successfully performed the first-ever thrombolysis, also known as fibrinolytic therapy, for Ischemic Stroke at the health facility. The operation was performed under the ‘Save Brain Initiative’.
According to a statement from the hospital, a patient came to the casualty ward at SDH Kupwara on Friday at 1:30 PM with weakness in the right side of their body. The patient was known to be hypertensive.
The hospital immediately assembled a team of medical professionals, led by HOD Medicine Dr. Sheikh Iqbal, to assess the patient and perform a CT scan of the brain. Radiologist Dr. Wasif diagnosed the patient with Lacunar infarcts and the patient was urgently shifted to the ER room.
The neurologists were consulted and a team of doctors, including Dr. Syed, Dr Aijaz, Dr Zia ul Islam, Dr Sahil Surani, and Dr Ashraf, performed the thrombolysis with the guidance of Dr. Sheikh Iqbal and overall supervision of Medical Superintendent SDH Kupwara Dr. Abdul Gani Dar.
The hospital management stated that it was the first-ever case of thrombolysis performed at the facility.
The successful operation is a significant achievement for the hospital and the medical community in India.
