GANDERBAL: An FIR has been registered against National Conference (NC) member Mohammad Ashraf Ganie from Peerpora, Ganderbal, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during an election campaign. The incident occurred in the Kachan area of Ganderbal district, where Ganie, a former sarpanch, allegedly used inflammatory language during a public address.
Ganie reportedly made provocative remarks, including the word “assassination” while speaking about those who fail to show respect for the NC party flag. The comments caused unrest in the area, prompting the MCC nodal officer to take serious note of the violation and call for strict action against Ganie. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and authorities are reviewing the case for further action.
The situation has led to political debate, with concerns raised about the use of such language during a sensitive election period.
In response to the incident, the NC’s Provincial Secretary, Showkat Ahmed Mir, downplayed the situation, stating that the comments were a “slip of the tongue” and did not justify the filing of an FIR. He further emphasized that Ganie did not intend to make such remarks, and the individual who made the comment in the gathering did so unintentionally.
Mir added that there was no malicious intent behind the statement and urged authorities to handle the matter with care, suggesting the FIR might have been unnecessary. The case remains under investigation.
