Sumbal, Sep 07 : The Sonawari assembly segment, long considered a stronghold of the National Conference, is now shaping up to be one of the most exciting and closely watched electoral contests in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the survey conducted by The Web Story/The Varmul Post, the entry of Hilal Akbar Lone, the son of veteran politician Mohammad Akbar Lone, has injected a fresh dynamic into the race, as he hopes to carry forward his father’s political legacy.
While the Lone family has dominated this seat since 2002, the political landscape has evolved, and the competition is fiercer than ever. Hilal Akbar Lone faces formidable opponents in the form of Imtiyaz Parray and Yasir Reshi, both of whom are determined to break the National Conference’s stronghold in the region.
Political observers suggest that the contest in Sonawari is far from one-sided, with no clear front-runner emerging. Imtiyaz Parray is seen to have a strong chance, particularly if he can capitalize on the support in the Sumbal block, where both the National Conference and Yasir Reshi enjoy significant backing.
The electorate in Sonawari appears eager for change, with many residents contemplating whether to support Parray or Reshi, in the hope of ushering in a new era of development and progress over the next five years.
Despite the challenges faced by Hilal Akbar Lone, including the shifting of his native area to the Bandipora constituency, the contest in Sonawari remains wide open, captivating the attention of political observers across Jammu and Kashmir.
The outcome of this election will undoubtedly have profound implications for the future of the region.
