A marriage proposal in Maharashtra was called off at the last moment due to a surprising reason—the groom’s CIBIL score. The incident, which took place in Murtizapur, has raised questions about the role of financial factors in arranged marriages, a TOI report stated.

Unusual Rejection Based on Financial Score
The families of the bride and groom were ready to finalize their wedding, having already agreed on the match. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the bride’s uncle insisted on checking the groom’s CIBIL score. According to sources cited by the ToI, the groom’s financial history became a key factor in the decision.

A Low CIBIL Score Causes Concern
Upon reviewing the CIBIL score, the bride’s uncle was reportedly unhappy with what he found. The groom had several loans from different banks, and his score was notably low. A low CIBIL score typically indicates poor credit management, such as missed payments or defaults, which signals potential financial instability. This raised concerns about the groom’s ability to provide financial security for his future wife.

Family Withdraws the Proposal
After reviewing the situation, the woman’s family unanimously agreed with the uncle’s concerns. As a result, they decided to withdraw the wedding proposal. Despite the families initially agreeing on the match, the financial red flags caused them to reconsider.

What is a CIBIL Score?
A CIBIL score is a three-digit number ranging from 300 to 900 that reflects a person’s credit history. Higher scores indicate a solid financial record, while lower scores suggest financial difficulties. Lenders use this score to assess an individual’s ability to repay loans.
