Sopore, September 23: A visually impaired man from the Kunnel village of the Ashpora area of north Kashmir has become a beacon of hope for many despite facing immense challenges by selling walnuts. He has become a shining example for many who possess the ability to earn but struggle to survive.
Muhammad Maqbool Sheikh shared his story with The Web Story and said that he had been living with one functional eye for a prolonged period. However, fifteen years ago, he lost sight in both his eyes. Undeterred by this setback, he refused to let despair take over.
Instead of resorting to begging, a path followed by many in similar circumstances, he said I chose to uphold my self-worth and dignity.
This Hadwara man said that he realised that begging never truly allows one to retain their true value as a person, so three years ago, I embarked on a new journey, selling walnuts in the Sopore market in order to earn a living in a dignified manner.
He said no doubt I am facing full challenges, but this dignified way helps me to cover my daily expenses through the sale of these nuts.
Despite the darkness that veils his sight, his inner light shines brightly through his unwavering spirit and indomitable willpower. Defying the limitations imposed by his disability, he has chosen to forge a livelihood from selling walnuts – a decision that is as inspiring as it is awe-inspiring.
