Pulwama Village Clings to 2G Network in Age of 5G
Pulwama, Sep 23: As the world eagerly embraces the lightning-fast speeds of the 5G era, the residents of Chak village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district find themselves confined to the sluggish 2G network, yearning for connectivity that matches the rest of the world.
For the residents of Chak in Pulwama district, the dream of fast, uninterrupted connectivity is not merely a luxury; it is an aspiration that holds the potential to unlock a new world of opportunities and possibilities.
The inhabitants of Chak village face significant challenges. A simple video call requires a journey to the nearest village that enjoys a stronger network signal.
“It feels like we are living in the last century, as there is no proper mobile connectivity in our village at a time when other parts are availing of 5G services,” said Danish Bilal, a student.
Arsheed Ahmad, who was working in an IT company in Delhi, had to quit his job during the COVID-19 pandemic because he didn’t have the internet at home when most of the companies switched to work-from-home mode.
“I have been jobless for the last two years. I had a few work-from-home offers, but I had to say no to them because of the poor internet connectivity in our village,” he said.
The students said they face difficulties watching videos, using social media, and browsing the internet. In this 5G era, a simple Google search takes minutes to load, said Simran Jan.
Hope gleams in their eyes as they express their aspiration to be seamlessly connected with the rest of the world and to experience the transformative power of 5G speed. They also appealed to the LG administration and the telecom companies to pay heed to their genuine demand and ensure network connectivity in the village.
