A 22-year-old self-taught calligrapher and visual arts student from the Arampora area of Ganderbal is winning hearts on social media for her stunning pencil drawings.
Mir Adleeb Bashir, who goes by Andleeb, said she has been driven to pursue art since her early childhood. After completing her matriculation exam, she opted for a medical stream in college, but was unable to focus much on her passion. After enrolling in a civil engineering program, she eventually dropped out to pursue her love of art.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Andleeb used the time to work on her sketching skills, and her family was supportive of her decision to attend the Institute of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Kashmir.
Andleeb told The Web Story that she’s been drawing and painting since she was a child, but limited resources have been a major hurdle in finding her dream. She wants to be a good artist, and believes that local people need to come forward to support local art in order to make it more widespread. Her main goals are to work with women, raise awareness of the abuse of women, and help people understand what art can do and its scope.
Andleeb’s message to the youth is to “never compromise on your dreams, don’t hide your talents, have a very wide art field, and never go hungry. You can easily earn bread by pursuing your dreams.
