MLA Baig Assures Facility Will Come Up Soon, Cites Lengthy Govt Procurement Process

Baramulla, Sep 21 : The much-awaited Cath Lab at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has run into a procurement hurdle after the selected bidder failed to supply the equipment as per tender specifications, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
In a reply to a question raised by Baramulla MLA Javid Hassan Baig, the Health and Medical Education Department as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post said the bidder could not supply the equipment because the specified model had been discontinued by the firm.
“The selected bidder could not supply the equipment as per the tendered specifications due to the fact that the specified model was discontinued by the firm,” the government stated.
According to the government, a fresh tender has now been floated for the Cath Lab, with technical evaluation currently underway. The financial bid is scheduled to be opened on September 30, 2026, while the Rate Contract (RC) is targeted to be awarded by October 10, 2026.
“Fresh tender has been floated for Cath Lab, technical evaluation of which is underway, with the financial bid scheduled to be opened by September 30, 2026, and the Rate Contract targeted to be awarded by October 10, 2026,” the government said in its reply.
Meanwhile, Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Baramulla MLA Javid Hassan Baig said the Cath Lab will be established and the facility will be made available at GMC Baramulla soon.
“This kind of specialised medical equipment is not procured locally; it goes through a detailed government procurement process, unlike the private sector where such purchases can be made more quickly. The process has taken time, but the Cath Lab will be established and the facility will be made available at GMC Baramulla,” Baig said.
