Rafiabad: At just 20 years of age, Ishrat Hussain Shah, a resident of Rafiabad village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is capturing hearts with the soul-stirring melodies of Kashmiri folk songs.
In an interview with The Web Story, 20-year-old Ishrat said that since childhood he has been so passionate about music due to the roots touched by his father, Abdul Rasheed, a seasoned folk musician.
Irshad said that I learned basic music from his father, and even at this stage, he also helped me grow up in the music world.
Ishrat said that my aim is to revive Kashmiri folk songs that are slowly losing ground in Kashmir.
He said that I am trying to breathe new life into the age-old tunes that once resonated with the people of Kashmir.
While talking about support from the family, he said I am so fortunate to have such support from family, which not only helps me to follow my dreams but also helps me to move forward. He said the encouragement and guidance of my family have been pillars of strength so far on my musical journey.
Ishrat Hussain Shah aspires to take the soulful tunes of Kashmiri folk music beyond the valley. His dream is to make Bollywood resonate with the heartwarming melodies that have been a part of Kashmir’s rich heritage for centuries.
