Srinagar, Jun 01: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh stated on Wednesday that Kashmir is renowned for its religious tourism.
The police chief made this statement ahead of the Shri Amarnath Yatra, according to The Web Story .
Dilbag Singh mentioned that just as people from the Kashmir region travel to perform Hajj and fulfill their religious responsibilities, individuals from various states in India attach great significance to undertaking the Amarnath Yatra.
“The people of Kashmir not only welcome these pilgrims but also extend hospitable treatment towards them,” he said.
Dilbag Singh expressed gratitude for the continuous support of the locals in Jammu and Kashmir towards the successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra.
He expressed hope that this year, too, they would cooperate in the same manner.
The DGP assured that all necessary arrangements would be made to ensure a smooth and peaceful environment for the visiting pilgrims.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, in a statement last week, anticipated a significant influx of pilgrims during the upcoming annual yatra to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, located at an elevation of 3,880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
The two-month-long pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on July 1, with two main routes available: the traditional 48-kilometer Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
Jitendra Singh also highlighted that Kashmir experienced a surge in tourism last year, with a record 1.75 crore tourists visiting the region to marvel at its natural beauty.
