Srinagar, May 31: In a heartfelt plea to the affluent, renowned Kashmiri singer Noor Mohammad urged the wealthy to redirect their riches towards assisting the less fortunate, particularly young girls who are unable to afford marriage expenses due to financial constraints.
Noor Mohammad, a gifted vocalist hailing from a humble background, shared his inspiring journey during an interview with this reporter. The 55-year-old singer, known for his melodic voice and proficiency with the earthen pot, expressed gratitude to Allah and his mentors, for guiding him towards a successful career in music.
Noor Mohammad’s introduction to music occurred at a tender age when he encountered a God-fearing peer who would sing songs of devotion. Intrigued by his talent, the peer encouraged Noor Mohammad to lend his voice to the melodies. Overwhelmed by the appreciation he received, the young artist embraced music as his lifelong profession, utilizing the earthen pot as his primary instrument.
Facing financial hardships as the eldest of five children in a poverty-stricken family, Noor Mohammad’s prospects for education seemed bleak. However, fate intervened when M. Yousuf Shah, recognizing his musical potential, persuaded Noor Mohammad’s mother to allow him to join their singing group. This decision opened doors for the talented vocalist, launching his career at the tender age of 12.
Noor Mohammad’s performances were not limited to professional engagements alone. He found solace in singing at weddings, captivating audiences with his soulful renditions. Recently, the advent of social media and mobile technology has further enhanced his visibility, bringing his music to a broader audience.
One particular song, in collaboration with renowned musicians Saleem Sulaiman and Muneem, sheds light on the stark contrast between extravagant weddings and the dismal circumstances faced by fathers who drain their resources on lavish ceremonies, ultimately leading to their financial ruin.
Using his platform, Noor Mohammad now seeks to convey a message to affluent parents, urging them to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate. He believes that their acts of kindness will not only bring positive change to the lives of those in need but also hold significant value in the hereafter.
To the younger generation, Noor Mohammad emphasizes the importance of hard work and maintaining a positive relationship with parents. He advises against neglecting or hurting one’s parents, highlighting the value of their guidance and support.
Despite his own humble beginnings, Noor Mohammad expresses contentment with his chosen profession. His passion for music has allowed him to transcend barriers, connecting with audiences across generations. Through his artistry, he continues to inspire others and advocate for a more compassionate and inclusive society.
Pertinently, Noor Mohammad’s recently released song “Kya Karie Korimol” has captured the hearts of people across the Kashmir valley.
