SRINAGAR, Oct 31: A significant water supply project for Sopore town, valued at Rs. 73.38 crore, has been officially sanctioned under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, according to a written reply from the Housing and Urban Development Department to MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar.
The document, reviewed by The Web Story/The Varmul Post, states that the project’s evaluation process is complete and the proposal is now set to be presented before the Contract Committee for the final approval and award of the contract.
In addition to this major initiative, the Jal Shakti Department (JSD) outlined several other measures currently underway to augment water supply (WS) in the Sopore constituency, the augmentation of the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) for Sidiq Colony and Model Town, with funding of Rs. 535.68 lakh from the UT Capex budget, is in progress.
Several local areas, including Badsha Mashid Mohalla of Batapora, Khushal Colony, inner lanes of Ningli, and Ibraheem Colony, are being augmented under the district capex during this financial year. The Chekroday Khan area will be augmented under UT capex. Furthermore, a 200 mm DI shunt line is proposed for the tail-end areas of Ningli and Hatisha under the Constituency Development Scheme (CDS) of the local MLA.
The reply reads, to serve areas with inadequate coverage, three departmental water tankers and one private tanker are currently operational in Sopore Town.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 16 water supply schemes have been taken up in the constituency, of which nine have already been completed.
Providing an update on the WSS for Sidiq Colony and Model Town, the reply detailed that the source has been identified and an intake sump-cum-pump house constructed. Pipeline distribution networks have been laid to cover the previously uncovered areas of Shalimar Colony, Qadriya Mohalla, and Umar Mohalla.
The rising main from Stage 1 to the filtration plant at Sidiq Colony is complete and currently undergoing testing. Similarly, the pipeline from Stage 1 to Model Town is approximately 90% complete, with only 46 meters remaining pending clearance for a road cut. The department is actively coordinating with the concerned authorities to resolve this issue.
While the permanent electrical connection is still awaiting inspection clearance, a temporary connection has been provided to allow for testing of the scheme, the reply further stated.
