Srinagar, February 11 :Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has questioned why National Conference leader Omar Abdullah is not using his political strength to ask tough questions about security in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the media, Mufti pointed out that while the PDP lacks sufficient representation in the Assembly, the National Conference holds 50 MLAs and Members of Parliament.

She criticized Abdullah for not raising concerns with the Home Minister over alleged human rights violations and security excesses in the region.

Mufti highlighted two recent incidents—one in Sopore, where a truck driver was allegedly killed by the Army, and another in Kathua, where a youth was allegedly forced to take his own life due to police harrasment.

The PDP leader criticized the administration for preventing her and her party members from visiting affected areas, alleging that even the personal security officers (PSOs) of her daughter, Iltija Mufti, were suspended without justification.

She condemned what she described as “selective action” by the government, demanding accountability for those responsible for human rights violations.

We are an opposition party, not militants It is our duty to stand with the people in times of injustice,” Mufti asserted, emphasizing that the restoration of statehood is meaningless unless the fundamental right to life is protected.(KNS)
