Mir Iqbal Likely Frontrunner for Party’s Ticket

WS/VP Desk

Baramulla, Sep 06 : As the NC-Congress Alliance was finalized last week, there is still ongoing discussion on a few seats for a friendly contest in the upcoming assembly elections.

Reliable sources told The Web Story/ The Varmul Post that since days, further developments are underway regarding the Congress-NC alliance, however, according to insiders, it has now surfaced that the two parties are likely to go for a friendly contest on the Baramulla seat.

The insider sources further told The Web Story/ The Varmul Post that Mir Iqbal and G.N Monga are in the Congress’s consideration, and a final decision is likely to be taken by a day or two.

According to the insiders, the Congress wants to go for a friendly contest on the Baramulla seat, looking at the performance of the two leaders, although Mir Iqbal has a better chance now, however, the coming time will tell whether Iqbal’s hard work will pay off or if the senior Congress leader will once again enter the fray.

Last week, the National Conference and Congress finalized the modalities of the seat-sharing arrangement for their pre-poll alliance, ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The two parties decided to contest 83 seats together – 51 would be fought by the NC and 32 by the Congress. One seat each has been set aside for the CPIM and the J&K Pather’s party.

In five seats, where both NC and Congress have decided to field candidates, a “friendly contest” is on the cards. The five seats, on which the two parties could not come to an agreement, are Sopore, Banihal, Bhaderwah, Doda and Nagrota.
