SOPORE, Oct 09: Proving that the only limits are those we set for ourselves, two adventurers from Sopore town in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have etched their names in the annals of Kashmiri exploration.
Majid Imtiyaz and Waseem un Nazir completed a grueling 5,500-kilometer motorcycle expedition from their hometown to the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan and back, all within ten days.
Their journey began at Mann té Salva, a local restaurant in Sopore, symbolizing a departure from a past when travel for passion was a formidable challenge.
The duo rode through the heart of India, traversing Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal before crossing into Bhutan via Jaigaon and reaching the serene capital, Thimphu.
Braving long hours, unpredictable weather, and the demanding terrain of endless highways and mountain passes, the riders persevered through unwavering determination and camaraderie. This landmark expedition establishes them as the first Kashmiri bikers to complete this extraordinary journey to Bhutan—a milestone that adds a proud chapter to the region’s growing adventure culture.
Speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Majid Imtiyaz reflected on the deeper significance of their ride. “It wasn’t just a ride—it was a journey of faith, friendship, and freedom. Every sunrise on the road reminded us how vast and beautiful the world truly is.”
He also framed the expedition as a powerful message to the youth. “We see our younger generation sometimes caught in negative pursuits, crushing their own dreams. This trip is a call to them: come out and live life fully. The outside world is too beautiful not to follow your dreams.”
Emphasizing the role of individual responsibility, Imtiyaz added, “Everyone needs to play their part in contributing to the well-being of society, whether through sports, adventure, or other means. The ultimate goal should be to inspire others.”
This achievement reflects the shifting spirit in Kashmir, where a new generation is increasingly shining on national and international stages, whether in athletics or in endeavors that chart new paths.
