Srinagar, Dec 24 : Congress District President of Pulwama, Umer Jaan, has sharply criticized MLA Pulwama, Waheed ur Rehman Para, and PDP leader Iltija Mufti for neglecting the pressing issues in their respective constituencies while participating in protests against the reservation policy at Gupkar, Srinagar.
Jaan urged Waheed Para to prioritize the resolution of local grievances in Pulwama district before engaging in broader political discussions. “The residents of Pulwama are grappling with inadequate infrastructure, power shortages, and poor road connectivity. These issues deserve your immediate attention. First, address the problems of Pulwama, and then focus on protests in Srinagar,” Jaan stated.
Targeting Iltija Mufti, Jaan reminded her of the expectations of her Bijbehara voters. “The people who entrusted you with their votes want local issues addressed first. Resolve the problems in Bijbehara before participating in Gupkar demonstrations over reservation policies,” he remarked.
Jaan also questioned the PDP’s legitimacy in leading protests, citing its controversial coalition with the BJP in 2014. “The PDP provided the BJP a foothold in Jammu and Kashmir through their alliance following the 2014 elections. Why are you protesting now in Srinagar against policies shaped by the very party you partnered with?” he asked, igniting fresh debate over the party’s priorities and accountability.
