The Govt. Degree College Baramulla on Feb. 20-21, 2023 organised a two-day “RSC Yusuf Hamied Teacher Development Programme for Science Teachers’ wherein science teachers from more than 60 schools in Baramulla district participated with great enthusiasm.

The workshop was organised by GDC Baramulla (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, Branch Office, Bangalore and CSIR-IIIM Srinagar.

The organisers said that the workshop was aimed at equipping science teachers with innovative teaching techniques to enhance their teaching skills and provide engaging and effective science lessons to students.

Participants were introduced to a range of active learning strategies, diagnostic questions, and access to online resources to enhance students’ learning experience.

Ms Karima Anjum, the Royal Society of Chemistry resource person for the programme, highlighted the importance of subject-specific pedagogy and introduced participants to a variety of learning tools such as flashcards, word walls, and phet simulations.

Participants were also shown how to conduct microscale experiments using simple and low-cost objects.

The chief guest of the valedictory session was Chief Education Baramulla, Shri Chaman Lal Sharma.

The program ended with the distribution of certificates among the participants.

Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Rather, stressed the importance of continuous up-skilling in teaching pedagogy to meet societal demands.

Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo highlighted the different skill programs offered by the college to improve the quality of school teaching staff.

The event was a success and received positive feedback from participating teachers who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills and provide better science education to their students.
