SOPORE, October 27 : In a significant development for the Sopore constituency, the government has approved a series of transformative infrastructure projects designed to bolster the region’s economic and transportation logistics.
The announcement was made in response to an inquiry by Sopore Member of the Legislative Assembly, Irshad Rasool Kar, regarding modern transport facilities for the constituency during a session of the Legislative Assembly.
A formal reply from the concerned ministry confirmed that concrete steps are being taken to address the infrastructural needs of growers, traders, and the general public in and around Asia’s second-largest fruit market.
Land Identified and Allocated for Modern Transport Hubs
As a key part of this initiative, the government has officially identified and allocated land for two critical facilities:
A Modern SRTC Bus Yard: A 30-Kanal plot at Estate Humlina, Sopore (Survey No. 963/846/2), has been earmarked for the construction of a new, modern State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) Bus Yard.
A New Truck Terminal for the Fruit Mandi: A substantial 90-Kanal plot (Survey No. 2377) has been identified and formally transferred for the construction of a dedicated Truck Terminal adjacent to the Sopore Fruit Mandi.
Enhanced Transport Options for Growers and Traders
The government reassured the legislative body that the transportation of fruit from the Sopore Mandi is being robustly supported through multiple channels:
Private and SRTC Partnership: While private trucks form the backbone of transport, the J&K SRTC actively provides additional vehicles during the peak season to ensure a seamless supply chain.
Innovative Rail Service: This year, Indian Railways introduced a dedicated rail service for apple transportation, offering growers a faster and more cost-effective alternative to reach markets across the country.
According to official documents, these new projects are expected to:
Streamline logistics and reduce transit times.
Provide modern amenities for drivers, traders, and commuters.
Solidify Sopore’s position as a premier fruit-trading hub.
The government’s comprehensive response underscores that the concerns of the Sopore constituency have been heard and are being met with decisive action, paving the way for a new era of economic growth and development in the region.
