Srinagar, Mar. 28: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Friday that statehood would be restored to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) at “the appropriate time.”

Speaking at the Times Now Summit, Shah announced that the restoration of statehood would follow an assessment of necessary parameters. He emphasized J&K’s progress in 2024, noting that, for the first time in 40 years, “not a single bullet was fired, no tear gas was deployed, and no re-polling occurred” during recent elections.

Shah highlighted the significance of the elections, which saw a voter turnout of approximately 60%, calling it a “huge win” for democracy. “This is not just about conducting elections,” he remarked. “It marks a historic shift toward peace and participation.” He acknowledged that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not secure victory, the elected representatives are now governing the region.

The Home Minister reiterated the BJP’s fulfillment of key promises, including the abrogation of Article 370 and the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He affirmed the party’s commitment to implementing a Uniform Civil Code.

Earlier, Shah had assured the nation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had initiated the foundation for a “new, developed, and terrorism-free Kashmir.” He pledged that full statehood would be reinstated to J&K once conditions permit, underscoring the government’s focus on stability and development in the region.
