SOPORE, Dec 17: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of Baramulla directed that all public transport stands in the district must operate their final services until 7 PM, with a revised cut-off of 6 PM designated for rural areas.
Speaking with The Varmul Post/The Web Story ARTO Mudasir Ahmad detailed that a meeting was convened with local transporters, who have pledged full cooperation. “This initiative is designed to ensure the availability of transport during the late evening, thereby mitigating public inconvenience,” he stated.
The official also addressed numerous complaints regarding driver misconduct. He confirmed that transport union presidents have been instructed to conduct meetings with all registered drivers. “Specific directives are being issued to address unruly behavior. While unions will monitor their members, the department will enforce strict penalties, including the potential cancellation of driving licenses and blacklisting of vehicles,” he asserted.
The officer outlined the provisions of the Road Accident Victim Fund, a scheme implemented in 2022. Under this policy, the government provides ₹1 lakh in relief to the family of any individual—not limited to drivers—who dies in a road accident. Severely injured persons are eligible for ₹50,000, while those sustaining a disability receive ₹75,000.
In a firm stance against regulatory breaches, the ARTO announced a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal vehicle stands. “Illegal stands will not be permitted to operate. A joint, intensive drive with the police department to dismantle such operations will commence soon,” he said.
The officer also guaranteed stringent action against overloading and overcharging. “The department will take strict and immediate action based on every complaint received regarding these practices,” Ahmad further added.
