Citing Growing Population and Inconvenience for Residents

Srinagar, February 19: Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and provincial secretary, Umar Jaan, has demanded the immediate declaration of tehsil status for the Newa area in Pulwama district.

Currently, Newa falls under the Niyabat administration, which Jaan argues is insufficient to cater to the needs of the growing population in the area. He highlighted the difficulties faced by residents who have to travel to Pulwama for essential tehsil-related services, causing inconvenience and financial burden.

“Granting tehsil status to Newa is not just a formality; it is a necessity for the thousands of people residing here,” Jaan stated. “It will significantly reduce their administrative burden and provide them with easier access to crucial services.”

He further emphasized the strategic location of Newa, making it well-suited to serve as a tehsil headquarters. He listed nearby areas like Singo Narbal, Urwan, Parigam, Gudura, Zadura, Hakripora, Chek Pora, Shubdanji, Lonepora, Luswani, Wahi Bagh, Chewa Kalan, and Ashmender that would benefit from improved administrative access through a dedicated tehsil in Newa.

Jaan urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to consider the legitimate demands of the Newa residents and initiate the process of granting tehsil status to the area at the earliest. He stated that this move would significantly improve the lives of countless people and contribute to the overall development of the region.
