GMC Baramulla Hosts Valley-Wide Medical Summit

Baramulla, Nov 19 ; The Department of Dermatology at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla successfully conducted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Psoriasis and Its Comorbidities.” The event was held under the esteemed patronage of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a formal address by Principal Prof. Dr. Jahangir, who chaired the session. The event was graced by distinguished Guests of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Qayoom, HOD of Dermatology at SKIMS Medical College Bemina, and Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Manzoor, Former Head of Dermatology at SKIMS Bemina. In their remarks, they emphasized the clinical importance of understanding psoriasis, its management, and the significant burden the disease places on healthcare systems.

The ceremony was conducted with a traditional Izband Sozi welcome, attended by the patron, guests of honour, and other dignitaries.

The academic segment began with a presentation by Dr. Parvaiz Anwar, HOD of Dermatology at GMC Baramulla. This was followed by expert lectures from leading dermatologists across the valley, including faculty from GMC Srinagar, GMC Anantnag, GMC Handwara, and other associated institutions. A key presentation on “Targeted Therapy and Biologics in Psoriasis” was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Seema Qayoom.

A significant focus of the CME was the multidisciplinary nature of psoriasis management. Faculty from various departments at GMC Baramulla provided specialized insights:

· Department of Orthopaedics discussed musculoskeletal comorbidities.
· Department of Psychiatry addressed the psychosocial burden of the disease.
· Department of Chest Medicine explored associations with tuberculosis.
· Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology covered the management of psoriasis in pregnancy.
· Department of Community Medicine presented the public health perspective.

Sessions also delved into psoriasis across different age groups, diverse treatment modalities, and the overall disease burden.

The event featured dynamic panel discussions that facilitated a productive exchange of academic and practical insights. An engaging post-graduate quiz for residents added an interactive and competitive dimension to the proceedings.

The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony for the contributors and a formal vote of thanks.

Dr. Parvaiz Anwar, the Organising Chairperson, and Dr. Peerzada Sajad, the Organising Secretary, expressed their gratitude to the Principal, Medical Superintendent, guests of honour, all dignitaries, and participants for their valuable contributions, which ensured the event’s success.

The CME was accredited with 4 credit points by the relevant medical authority, adding significant academic value and professional recognition to the event.
