Here are a few of these inspiring North Kashmir female achievers, no less than those from the rest of India.
Snober Samander
Snober Samander is a trailblazing figure in Sopore, as the town’s first female cricketer. Her journey symbolizes a transformative movement that is breaking barriers and inspiring others. Since childhood, Snober has possessed an unwavering passion for cricket, and in the past two years, she has been associated with the Saat academy, where she has honed her skills and competed in various cricket tournaments across the valley.
Snober’s family has played a crucial role in supporting her dreams, and she acknowledges the challenges she faces as a female cricketer in her town. However, she remains resolute and committed to pursuing her passion for the sport. Her exceptional batting talent has already garnered attention, propelling her towards stardom in different cricket formats across the Kashmir valley.

Tajamul Islam
A young girl from north Kashmir has an extraordinary story of courage, determination, and optimism. Despite her young age, she has already achieved remarkable success. Tajamul garnered international recognition by representing India and winning the prestigious World Kickboxing Championship held in Italy in 2016.
What makes her achievement even more impressive is the fact that she accomplished this feat at the tender age of seven, when most children her age are engrossed in playing video games and engaging in playful activities.
Tajamul’s inspiration to pursue kickboxing came from seeing her older siblings being trained in Wushu. Fearing that she would miss out on the opportunity to become strong and capable like them, she convinced her parents to allow her to join the training academy. In a clever fashion, she remarked, “Am I not your child too that you haven’t let me join the academy?” Her father agreed, but with the condition that she could learn kickboxing only if she won a gold medal—a promise she fulfilled admirably.
Not only does Tajamul excel in kickboxing, but she also displays exceptional talent in Taekwondo and Wushu. Despite her remarkable achievements, she remains a joyful and lighthearted child with a sharp sense of humor. She believes that her wit plays a crucial role in overcoming her fears and challenges.

Iqra Rasool is an accomplished Indian cricketer renowned as ‘Baramulla’s supergirl’ for her exceptional skills. Hailing from Dangiwacha, Rafiabad in North Kashmir, she has represented Jammu and Kashmir at the U-19 and U-23 levels. Iqra’s talent and dedication have earned her recognition and accolades.
In 2017, at a session of ‘We The Women’ in Mumbai, the captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team, Mithali Raj, awarded Iqra Rasool the prestigious ‘H.E.R.’ (Hope. Empower. Rise.) award. Ronak Reyaz Baba, a young girl from Sopore town in north Kashmir, has achieved remarkable success on the international stage by winning a silver medal in the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation’s (WEKAF) World Arnis Invitational Championship 2022 held in the Philippines.
Despite her young age and coming from Sopore’s Magraypora village, Ronak’s dedication and hard work have propelled her to become a perfect athlete. Her achievements not only make the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir proud but also inspire the entire nation of India.
Representing India in the women’s category at such a young age, Ronak has become an inspiration for many girls who may have faced setbacks in their lives and felt unable to pursue their dreams. Samaniya Bhat
Samaniya Bhat, also known as RJ Samaniya, has achieved the title of the youngest female RJ in north Kashmir.
With a passion for journalism and a background in print media, the twenty-two-old from Baramulla transitioned to radio after three years of active work.
Studying Mass Communication and Video Production during her graduation, Samaniya’s curiosity about the world and her love for staying updated with global news started at an early age. When the opportunity to apply for the position of radio jockeys at Kashmir Radio Chinar- FM: 90.4 came in February, she seized the chance and faced tough competition and multiple rounds of interviews before securing the role.
Samaniya’s journey showcases her determination and drive in pursuing her dreams.
