Baramulla, Aug 09: Far from their homes, families, and their own siblings, soldiers stationed in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district were honored by local girls who tied them rakhis—symbolizing love, courage, and sacrifice.
“On this occasion, every brother wishes to receive a rakhi from his sister. These soldiers are here to protect us, sacrificing time with their own families. We didn’t want them to feel alone. Today, in Baramulla, we tied rakhis to our soldier brothers at their unit so they know they have sisters here too,” said one of the girls who was leading the group, speaking to The Web Story/The Varmul Post.
She added, “This festival is about the heart—a time to strengthen bonds with our brothers. We wanted our soldiers to feel the warmth of family, even when they’re far from home.”
Another young woman shared, “I don’t have a brother, so I came here to tie a rakhi to a jawan who safeguards our nation. Because of their sacrifices, we sleep peacefully, free from fear. They stand guard against threats so that we remain safe.”
She said these brave men leave their families behind to ensure our safety. “The least we can do is remind them that they are not alone—they have sisters here who care for them.”
“Raksha Bandhan is a reminder that humanity transcends all boundaries. In Kashmir, where tensions often rise, such acts of kindness show that love can bridge any divide,” said another girl, Sakeena (name changed).
She added, “This is the true spirit of Kashmir—unity and love.”
The soldiers, often hardened by duty, were visibly touched by the gesture. One of the officers present said, “We miss our families during festivals, but today, these girls made us feel at home. Their love and respect mean more than words can express.”
