Baramulla, Sep 20: Independent candidate Touseef Raina stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a proxy candidate contesting in this assembly election for the Baramulla seat.
In an exclusive interview with The Web Story/The Varmul Post, Touseef Raina, an Independent candidate for the Baramulla seat, hinted at Senior Baig, suggesting he is an alleged BJP candidate.
Touseef asserted that the entire Baramulla community knows the BJP is fighting this election through a particular candidate. He emphasized that this candidate should have openly communicated with the public and should have openly said that he is contesting the election on behalf of the BJP, instead of attempting to mislead them.
He mentioned that even at this age, ‘Baig’ is making his personal family issues public, which reflects his frustration and is indeed unfortunate.
Touseef said those people who had moved a no-confidence motion against him when he was Municipal Council President and had joined the BJP, are now supporting “Senior Baig”, and people need to be very careful so as not to fall into any misconception that BJP is not fielding a candidate in the Baramulla seat, as the reality is that Senior Baig is their candidate.
Interestingly, Former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig filed his nomination form to contest as an Independent candidate from the constituency, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced that they are not contesting from the Baramulla seat.
Meanwhile, sources told The Web Story/The Varmul Post that the Baramulla seat is expected to witness a very interesting contest. In the fray, along with some senior political leaders, Independent candidates are also showing keen interest, although according to sources, National Conference’s Javaid Hussain Baig, AIP’s Shoiab Lone, and Independent Candidate Touseef Raina are visible in the race so far.
The other contesting candidates, including Senior Baig, People’s Democratic Party Candidate Rafeeq Rather, and Congress candidate Mir Iqbal, are also expected to be in close competition.
