Basant Rath, a suspended Indian Police Service (IPS) officer known for his controversial actions, will soon be featured in a video song paying tribute to legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali.

Sources have confirmed that Rath, who previously announced his resignation in June 2021, has sung a few lines in the song “Tumhe Dillagi” with renowned vocalist and musician Chetan Sanmotra. The song will be released in the coming days.

Rath, who announced his joining of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in January 2022, has expressed his intention to contest elections from Kashmir.

His controversial actions as a police officer in the region have drawn both criticism and support from various groups.

The tribute song featuring Rath is expected to receive mixed reactions from the public.

Earlier in June 2021, Basant Rath announced his resignation from service on his Twitter handle.

He also posted the resignation letter that he has written to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention here that on January 9, Basant Rath announced joining the ruling BJP to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

“I’ll join the BJP before the next parliamentary elections. I’ll stay and work in J&K and Ladakh. No question of going back to Odisha”, Basant Rath wrote on his Twitter account.
