In an unexpected incident, a few pieces of dumplings turned fatal for a woman in Hyderabad. Reshma Begum and 20 others fell ill with food poisoning after eating momos from a street vendor at different locations across city’s Banjara Hills, resulting in the 33-year-old woman’s death, NDTV reported on October 30.
Reshma Begum, who is a single mother, went with her daughters, who are aged 12 and 14, to eat momos from a roadside vendor in Khairatabad last week, the channel said. Later, all of them started suffering from diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting, NDTV reported.

On Sunday, Reshma died while her daughters were under treatment, the report said. After her death, a family member filed a complaint with the police following which, the Banjara Hills Police Station registered a case against the vendor and began a probe.

Ram Babu, sub-inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station, confirmed to PTI that a case has been filed and an investigation is being conducted. The woman’s body was interred and a decision on further course of action to ascertain the cause of her death is yet to be taken, the official added.

A Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) release said the corporation’s food safety officials, with the help of police, traced the street vendor and found that the establishment is being operated without license and in unhygienic conditions.

The officials have sent the food samples to the state food laboratory for analysis and orders were issued to stop the vendor’s business operations. The vendor was later detained by the police.

The GHMC food safety officials also addressed a letter to the Banjara Hills police to conduct an inquiry into the matter. (Agencies)
