The customers’ fascination with online ordering has altered the way they engage with eateries or ordering online items. In north Kashmir, it has only been 2 years since such online food delivery apps first appeared, and they have already caused a revolution.
“Have your favorite food delivered in 20 minutes!” This has become the talk of every household in the northern region of Kashmir. Kashmir has witnessed hundreds of budding entrepreneurs who are doing incredibly good.
The Web story brings you the complete story of the two food delivery apps, which have now become very common names in every household in north Kashmir’s twin town of Baramulla district.
Wal Aan:

During the COVID pandemic, when a friend of Rashid, the brain behind the “Wal Aan” Food app, was suffering from covid 19, an idea stuck in his mind as why not to start an online delivery service here in Kashmir.
“During covid, we used to take groceries and other things from an outlet at that time for one of my friends who was a victim of covid. This is how my idea was generated,” said Rashid, a B-tech mechanical student from Bangalore University.
He said once he got back home, without investing anything, he just used his own two-wheeler and created one Instagram page and that’s how his journey started.
One of his friends, who is now also his business partner, started serving orders from friends including vegetables, street food, and fruits.
“Once the flow was good on our Instagram page, we entered restaurants and started getting orders for restaurants. We were now assisting cafes in our town also,” he added.
Rashid stated that the journey started with 2 people and in one and a half years now Wal Aan has 26 members from Srinagar, Sopore, and Baramulla and efforts are being made to extend it further.
“We started in Baramulla, then moved to Sopore and Alhamdulliah and in response to public demand, we entered the Srinagar district as well, and Handwara will receive our service in the next two months,” Rashid said.
He said that almost all the restaurants are availing the services of Wal Aan for delivering orders to the doorstep of common people.
In a message to the youth, Rashid said, “Don’t stop yourself from following your dreams; whatever is right for you, chase that and fulfill it.”
“Don’t be at home; don’t be victims of depression; let’s come out and do what’s necessary for our lives and our careers,” he added.
Rashid said at the initial stage he was not only criticized but also badly trolled by his own relatives and friends, but as time passed, he converted all the trolls into viable positive influences through his dedication and efforts, and today he is one of the most lovable person among his family, relatives, and friends.
Saalas:

Another on-demand online food and grocery app that caters to the needs of consumers across Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has changed the way people eat.
Customers who order food online from the comfort of their homes and get it delivered right to their doorstep is “Saalas.”
A software engineer by profession, Farooq Ahmad Seeru, a resident of Arampora Sopore and founder of Saalas in an exclusive interview with The Web Story, said that this is a complete delivery app, and people across the town are ordering their choices, from food to other grocery items, at home.
“We believe in delivering to the doorsteps of the people,” he added.
Farooq said the endeavor has become a source of employment for 11 people, from delivery boys to office assistants, and more will be added in the coming years.
This software engineer in a message to youth said that working hard with dedication is the key to success.
“If you want to lead a successful life, achieve your goals, and feel amazing about yourself, hard work matters. However, establishing a solid work ethic requires,” he added.
