Sopore, a town located in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, has long been criticized for its underdevelopment and the neglect shown by officials towards its people. However, since the abrogation of Article 370, Sopore has been undergoing a transformation that not only signifies progress in terms of development but also a shift in the relationship between the people and government officials as they work together towards a successful, healthy, green, and clean Sopore.
It has been four years since the various stakeholders, including the local administration, have been making concerted efforts to bring about change. These efforts have resulted in the construction of paved roads, improved traffic flow, reduced concerns about water and electricity, and the provision of other basic facilities. Moreover, these endeavors have fostered a peaceful environment, allowing everyone to envision a brighter and more prosperous future.
Remarkable changes have also taken place within the administration itself. From every corner of the town, people have been praising the tireless efforts of the administration, particularly ADC Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina, SSP Sopore Shabir Nawab, and ARTO Mouzim Ali, who have played a pivotal role in the development and welfare of Sopore.
ADC (Additional Deputy Commissioner) Shabir Ahmad Raina has become an inspiration for many due to his exceptional dedication and work culture. His commitment to his duties knows no bounds, regardless of whether it is day or night.
One incident that showcases Raina’s unwavering dedication is his surprise night visit to health institutions. This unexpected action has not only left a lasting impact on the people of Sopore but has also earned him accolades across the entire valley. His willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of the community has won the hearts of many.
It is under Raina’s leadership that the officers in Sopore have been motivated to give their best. His guidance and encouragement have kept them on their toes, striving to deliver their utmost for the betterment of the town.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Nawab, is a man of principles who has proven to be a great source of relief for the people in the town over the past two years. Under his leadership, the Sopore police force has been doing a tremendous job. Not only do they carry out their regular work efficiently, but they also go the extra mile to ensure the overall welfare of the townspeople.
One particular quality of this SSP that has garnered high praise from all sections of the town is his kindness, honesty, and supportive nature towards the people. He has shown immense compassion and empathy, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His approachability and willingness to listen to people’s concerns have made him a beloved figure in the community.
SSP Sopore Shabir Nawab has taken several initiatives to improve the safety and security of the town. He has implemented various community policing programs that aim to strengthen the bond between the police and the public. These initiatives have helped build trust and confidence among the residents, resulting in a safer and more harmonious environment.
Muazzam Ali, ARTO Baramulla, has brought about significant improvements in the transport department of Sopore. Previously, the department had been criticized for its negative aspects. However, since Ali’s arrival, positive changes have been observed on the ground.
One notable change implemented by Ali is the initiation of drives targeting traffic violators. This is the first time such drives have been conducted on Sopore’s roads, demonstrating a proactive approach towards enforcing traffic rules and maintaining safety standards. Through these drives, Ali aims to create awareness among transporters about the importance of safe driving and their overall well-being.
Muazzam Ali’s efforts have garnered widespread recognition and appreciation from the community. His proactive and comprehensive approach to addressing the transport department’s issues has resulted in improved road safety and better overall transportation management in Sopore.
The journey towards a brighter Sopore began with the former MC President, Masrat Rasool Kar, who displayed exceptional dedication and effort. Her remarkable work during her tenure in shaping and reorganizing various aspects of the town deserves commendation.
During her tenure, the town finally received recognition at a higher official level when the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, visited earlier this year. This visit proved to be a turning point for Sopore, as it saw the conversion of a long-pending red mark into a green zone, signifying development and progress.
The leadership of Masrat Rasool Kar also resulted in attracting the attention of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, who made the effort to visit the town multiple times. This demonstrated the commitment and dedication of both the local and administration officials to the growth and improvement of Sopore.
Sopore has also witnessed the emergence of new voices. From Irfan Ali to Javeed Bhat, these individuals have actively worked towards raising issues and shining a spotlight on the town’s hardships. Within just four years, Sopore has undergone significant political and social changes, with individuals dreaming of becoming leaders and actively engaging in politics.
Irfan Ali, a former business entrepreneur, has rapidly emerged as a prominent figure in the political arena. Through his dedication and hard work, he has gained significant recognition within a short span of time, thereby earning a place in one of the mainstream political parties.
With a keen focus on the forthcoming elections, Irfan is determined to represent his town as a candidate for this prominent political party.
The rise of these new voices has also given birth to social activist groups, civil society organizations, and other forums, which increasingly compete with one another as people rally around their respective causes.
Furthermore, the town’s youth have taken their own path by focusing on personal ventures, businesses, and work. Highly educated young individuals have made their mark in the business sector, contributing to the betterment of the town and its people.
However, the question on everyone’s mind is whether this change will continue or if it is just a fleeting moment in time.
Will Sopore be able to shed its old tagline and embrace a new and improved identity? Only time will tell.
