Srinagar, Sep 04: In view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions, the authorities have restricted movement for picnics, excursions in the world-famous health resort of Gulmarg and trekking in
the northern region of Kashmir.
Through two separate orders, the administration has restricted movement for trekkers and school excursions to the tourist destination of Gulmarg.
In one order, Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg, Tariq Hussain (JKAS), stated: “In view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions in Gulmarg and the associated risks to the safety of students, it has been deemed necessary, in the interest of public safety, to regulate the entry of school buses into the tourist resort.
Accordingly, it is hereby notified that the movement and entry of educational tours, excursions, and picnics to Gulmarg shall remain barred with immediate effect until further orders.
All institutions are advised to adhere strictly to this directive. The restriction shall remain in force until weather conditions improve and further orders are issued by this Authority.”
A copy of a second order, obtained by The Web Story/The Varmul Post, reads: “In view of the prevailing weather conditions and in the interest of public safety, it is hereby advised that no trekking activity shall be undertaken in any area falling under the jurisdiction of this office, which includes areas within the districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority.
It is further clarified that even short treks in lower areas shall not be undertaken without due authorization, as such activities are unsafe under the present circumstances.
All concerned are accordingly advised to adhere strictly to this advisory. Any violation shall be at the sole risk and responsibility of the individual concerned. This advisory is issued in the interest of public safety.” the order further reads.
Pertinently, the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir worsened on Wednesday, with nearly all rivers and streams flowing above the flood mark. However, authorities stated on Thursday that water levels at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh are showing signs of recession, though they continue to remain above the danger mark, necessitating continued caution.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Ansul Garg, stated that the public must maintain calm and cooperate with the district administrations. “The situation is being closely monitored, preventive measures are in place, and rescue teams are already on the ground. We appeal to citizens to remain calm and strictly follow advisories issued by the concerned authorities,” Garg said. He added that 11 rescue teams comprising Revenue, Police, NDRF, and SDRF personnel are assisting people in affected areas.
