Srinagar, 20 Dec: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday accused the administration of abandoning those living near and around the border areas, saying people there continue to face several hardships.

Echoing the sentiments of people living in the remote areas of Nuri and Kalaroos in Kupwara, Party’s Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said, “Divisional and concerned district administration has made the border areas in Kupwara a no-go zone for them. No one talks about the struggles of the day-to-day life of the villagers residing in these border areas mostly in the upper reaches of Kupwara. Our people in these areas are  being  forced to live in the dark ages.”

While addressing several worker’s meetings in Block Kalaroos, Nasir said, “The absence of effective multi tyre health-care infrastructure in these areas is forcing the people residing in these areas to go for rudimentary, and at times ineffective, means of treatment. The ration and medicinal stock in the upper reaches of Kalaroos and Nuri takes months altogether to replenish. Shortage of ground staff in local medical centers, schools, and ration stores are also plaguing these areas. Needless to say that people living in the upper reaches and outlying areas have completely been rescinded from the development radar of the government. Let alone development, the locals there are hankering even for the basic utility services like water and electricity.”

“Far from continuing with the policies of the NC govt, the present regime has liquidated all the developmental gains achieved by us during our stint in power. However, I assure our people particularly our educated youth living in these areas that once in power, NC will again prioritise their development, and welfare needs,” he added.

During the tour of Kalaroos and Nuri, Nasir made stopovers at various villages, where locals apprised him about the plethora of problems faced by them on a daily basis. He assured the people that he will air their woes at appropriate forums.
