Sopore, Jun 17 : The installation of a lift at the Sub-District Hospital here is progressing swiftly, with industrial body president Junaid Janwari on Wednesday terming the development a “major relief” for patients and attendants who have long struggled with vertical movement within the facility.
Janwari, who visited the hospital to review the ongoing work, said the lift had been a “long-pending demand” of the people and thanked MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar and the Block Medical Officer for their concerted efforts in pushing the project forward.
“This is a significant step towards easing the ordeal of patients, especially the elderly and those with critical ailments, who found it extremely difficult to access the upper floors,” Junaid Janwari said.
The Sopore Industrial Association president said the hospital caters to a large population from the town and surrounding areas, and the absence of a lift had compounded hardships for attendants carrying patients on stretchers and wheelchairs.
“With this facility coming up, not only will the public get much-needed relief, but it will also reduce the physical and mental stress on patients and their families,” he added.
Janwari also urged the administration to ensure the work is completed within the stipulated timeline and called for regular maintenance of the lift post-installation to avoid any breakdowns in the future.
The installation is part of a broader upgrade of healthcare infrastructure in the constituency, with the MLA Sopore having previously directed officials to prioritise patient-centric facilities at the hospital.
