Srinagar, Oct 25 : Irfan Hafeez Lone, the Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Wagooga-Kreeri constituency, has described the arrest of AIP leader MLA Mehraj Malik from Doda as against the spirit of democracy.
Speaking to The Web Story/ The Varmul Post, MLA Irfan stated that the actions of the BJP are oppressive, tyrannical, and unjust. He revealed that the fellow legislator is being detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), which he said violates both the spirit of democracy and the rule of law.
He condemned the manner of the arrest, calling it a “murder of democracy.”
MLA Irfan stated that Mehraj Malik is his colleague and friend. While affirming that no one is above the law and that everyone is equal before it, he contended that arresting an MLA in this way constitutes an attack on the legislative institution itself.
He added by urging all legislators to make every effort to determine how they can collectively oppose the BJP.
