Prescribes Breathwork as a Tool for Empowerment and Harmony
SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Global humanitarian and spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addressed a massive gathering of over 20,000 students at the Bakshi Stadium on Tuesday, outlining his vision for a drug-free and harmonious Kashmir.
The special EduYouth Meet, organized by the Department of Higher Education, brought together students from 50 colleges and four universities. Gurudev called upon the youth to lead the charge against drug addiction, offering a practical solution rooted in self-empowerment.
“The secret lies in their own breath,” Gurudev as per The Web Story/The Varmul Post stated. “By harnessing the power of breath through meditation and specific exercises, one can easily overcome drug addiction.”
He articulated his broader vision for the region, saying, “We will see that Kashmir is free from drugs. My dream has always been of a society free from violence, a body free from disease, a mind free from confusion, an intellect free from inhibition, and a soul free from sorrow. This is the birthright of everybody.”

Emphasizing Kashmir’s rich spiritual history, the spiritual leader described the region as the “land of ancient wisdom.” He drew parallels between modern quantum physics and the ancient text of Spandakarika, which is rooted in Kashmir Shaivism.
“Meditation is not foreign to Kashmir; it is the heritage of Kashmir,” he asserted. “This land gave meditation to the world, and it has nothing to do with any religious belief. Meditation keeps the intellect sharp and the mind happy.”
Invoking a spirit of unity, he spoke in Urdu, saying: “Hain ek noor, usi noor ke hain hum sab. Us noor se jud gaye to koi paraya nahi lagta. Sab apne lagte hain. Isi ko hum kehte hai jivan jine ki kala.” (“We are of one divine light. When connected to that light, no one is a stranger; everyone is our own. This is the art of living.”)
He further encouraged the youth to prioritize harmony, adding, “Kashmiri youth stand for communal harmony. Life is too short. Mohobbat karne k liye samay kum hai, hum jhagre jhanjhat me kyon pade.” (“There is little time for love; why should we engage in conflicts and squabbles.”)
On the occasion students also collectively taking a pledge to work towards the goal of a Drug-Free Kashmir.
