SRINAGAR, Sep 03 : While the plains of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have been lashed by rains and flash floods over the past week, the higher reaches of Kashmir have witnessed the season’s second snowfall in the last ten days.
A report from The Web Story/The Varmul Post’s Special Correspondent in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District states that temperatures have decreased, and a significant chill was felt after a fresh, light snowfall began at Zero Point in Sonamarg.
The correspondent said that this is the second time in ten days that the Sonamarg belt has received snowfall in August.
Similar reports from other high-altitude areas also indicate that temperatures have plunged to low degrees, signaling an early start to winter.
Light snowfall was also witnessed last week at the Razdan Pass in the Gurez Sector shortly after the highway was closed.
Pertinently, an independent weather forecaster, Kashmir Weather, said in a statement that moderate rainfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir today. North Kashmir will likely see comparatively less rainfall.
While a few breaks in showers are possible in some places, South Kashmir is set to witness rainfall until late afternoon, with precipitation in some pockets possibly extending into the evening.
A gradual improvement is anticipated from late afternoon onwards, with overall weather conditions expected to improve by tomorrow, Kashmir Weather forecasts.
