KPDCL Calls It As A New Year Gift To Locals

Noor ul Haq

Kupwara, Jan 03: In a historic moment, the remote villages of Kundiyan and Patroo in Keran, along the Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district, experienced electricity for the first time in 75 years.

This significant development, hailed as a New Year gift, was made possible through the completion of two Sub Stations of 250 KV (33kv/440 volts) under Samirdh Seema Yojan (SSY) by KPDCL Electric Division Kupwara.

The successful execution of the projects was directly monitored by the Superintending Engineer, Circle Sopore (KPDCL).

Locals while hailing the step told the WebStory that it reflects the commitment of KPDCL North Circle Sopore in providing essential services to border villages despite harsh weather and rugged terrain.

Earlier the inauguration ceremony, presided over by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, brought immense joy to the thousands of residents of these villages.

Superintending Engineer, Circle Sopore (KPDCL), Habib Chowdhary, highlighted the challenges posed by the difficult topography and the importance of connecting these habitations to the National Grid.

He said that the projects, worth Rs 44 lakh and Rs 47 lakh, were initiated in mid-November 2023 under Samridh Seema Yojna (SSY) and were completed within a short period of one and a half months.

“As a result, 120 households in Kundian Village and 160 in Patroo Village received the gift of quality electricity on the eve of the new year 2024,” Chowdhary told the WebStory.

He said that this achievement underscores the dedication of KPDCL to meet the expectations of its valuable customers and bring progress to border villages like Keran.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, also played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of this project, ending the long wait for electricity in these areas.

Locals expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the District Administration especially KPDCL acknowledging that their remote villages finally received grid connectivity.
